Problem
Fitness Space started with a simple observation: most people trying to lose weight don't suffer from a complete lack of information.
People generally know they should eat better, move more and make healthier choices. The harder problem is consistency.
I became interested in what happens between knowing what to do and actually doing it every day, especially when the advice available doesn't always fit the foods, routines and realities of the people we're building for.
Experiment
WhatsApp before software
Fitness Space began with WhatsApp groups.
Instead of starting with an app, we built the first version of the system around people already trying to lose weight. We used WhatsApp to organise daily activities, workouts, food guidance, check-ins and accountability.
It gave us a simple environment to test the system with real people before committing significant resources to software.
Working directly with users
Running Fitness Space this way kept us unusually close to the problem.
We could see the meals people actually ate, the questions they repeatedly asked, where motivation disappeared, which habits were difficult to sustain and what helped people return after falling off.
The manual work was inefficient, but that inefficiency was useful.
It showed us what technology eventually needed to solve.
Learning
What we learned
The biggest lesson was that weight loss wasn't simply an information problem.
Consistency often broke down in ordinary moments: deciding what to eat, controlling portions, completing a workout, getting enough movement and returning after a bad day.
We also learned that rigid meal plans weren't necessarily the answer. People already had food at home and foods they enjoyed eating. The more useful question was how to help them make healthier decisions with what was actually available to them.
Accountability mattered too.
When healthy actions became visible, when people could check in and when someone noticed whether they showed up, it became easier to turn intention into repeated behaviour.
Product
A product system, not a single app
Those lessons eventually became a product system rather than a single app.
WhatsApp is still part of Fitness Space. It remains useful for onboarding, interaction, accountability and community, while dedicated technology handles the parts of the experience that require more structure, intelligence and personalisation.
Bibi by Fitness Space
Bibi is the AI and personalisation layer of Fitness Space.
It can understand a user's goals and circumstances, help them make healthier food decisions based on the foods available to them, guide them through the system and maintain regular interactions through WhatsApp.
The idea isn't simply to give people more health information.
It is to make healthier decisions easier to make repeatedly.
Health Score
Weight is an outcome, but the behaviours that influence it happen every day.
Health Score makes those daily actions and consistency visible and measurable.
Instead of asking users to think only about the number on the scale, it brings attention back to the things they can control today: nutrition, movement, workouts and other healthy behaviours.
X2 Nutrition
X2 Nutrition is our approach to making nutrition simpler and more practical.
Rather than prescribing rigid meal plans, it helps users build healthier meals around foods available to them, with attention to carbohydrates, vegetables, protein and portions.
The goal is to create an approach people can realistically repeat, rather than a temporary diet they abandon after a few weeks.
Scale
Technology for coaches
The same challenge also exists on the other side of the relationship.
Coaches need better ways to manage clients, deliver personalised support and grow their businesses.
Fitness Space is therefore building a B2B product for fitness coaches alongside the consumer experience, extending the system beyond what our own team can deliver directly.
Where we are today
What started as a weight-loss system operated through WhatsApp has evolved into a dedicated health technology platform.
Bibi by Fitness Space is now available as a dedicated mobile app, giving users a structured product experience for nutrition, workouts, physical activity, daily healthy behaviours, progress and accountability. The Android app is live on Google Play.
WhatsApp remains part of the system rather than something we abandoned. It continues to provide a familiar layer for communication, guidance and community, while the app provides the structured experience that became increasingly difficult to deliver manually.
Fitness Space now has more than 1,000 users from Nigeria, the UK, Canada, the USA, Ukraine and Rwanda.
We have also been accepted into Microsoft for Startups.
Where we're going
Launching the app isn't the destination.
The next stage is about making Fitness Space more intelligent, personalised and scalable without losing the closeness to users that shaped the product in the first place.
We are continuing to develop Bibi, Health Score, the consumer experience and our technology for coaches, while building toward a platform capable of serving more people across more markets.
